Hey South Bay families!
If you’re looking for a quick, stress-free plan to get the kids outside and burning off some energy this weekend, we’ve put together three fantastic local options. From cool splash pads nestled in the Bonita hills to seasonal fall fun and coastal views, here is your playbook for a great family weekend.
1. Splash Pad & Mountain Views at Sweetwater Summit Regional Park
📍 3218 Summit Meadow Rd, Bonita
Most locals drive right past it, but Sweetwater Summit Regional Park is low-key one of the coolest hidden spots in Bonita. Perched up in the hills right alongside the RV campsite, this 560-acre park hides a full-on splash pad packed with pop-up geysers and sprayers. It’s an absolute game-changer when you want a splash day with awesome views and zero chaos.
What to Expect: Modern play structures with rubberized surfacing, shaded picnic pavilions, a 13-station fitness trail, and sprawling views of the reservoir.
Dad Tip: Day-use wristbands for the splash pad are just $3 per child (free for registered campers). Pack extra towels and a picnic lunch to make a full morning out of it!

2. October Fun at the Bonita Pumpkin Station
📍 5354 Sweetwater Rd, Bonita
Right down the street from the park, the seasonal Bonita Pumpkin Station is officially open for October! It's one of our favorite low-stress fall traditions in the South Bay.
What to Expect: Giant inflatable slides, obstacle courses, kid-friendly farm rides, a petting zoo, and rows of pumpkins for early fall photo ops.
Dad Tip: Parking and admission are free (you just pay for individual ride/inflatable tickets or pet zoo feed), making it easy to drop in for 45 minutes of fun without committing your entire day.

3. Coastal Ocean Breeze & Pier Stroll at Portwood Pier Plaza
📍 900 Seacoast Dr, Imperial Beach
When you want ocean air and flat pavement for scooters or bikes, head over to Portwood Pier Plaza.
What to Expect: A ship-themed playground sitting right on the boardwalk, expansive grassy lawns for flying kites, and front-row views of the surf.
Dad Tip: Grab an ice cream cone along Seacoast Drive, then take a stroll out to the end of the IB Pier to watch the surfers and catch the sunset.
